George W. Pressler, 90, 109 Park St., Hollidaysburg, died Sunday morning, March 22, 2009, at Altoona Hospital. He was born in 1918 in Johnstown to Fred W. and Mary B. (Burkholder) Pressler. He married Grace Rhodes July 20, 1948, in Martinsburg. Survived by his wife. He was predeceased by a brother, Fred. He retired as a truck driver and landscaper. Mr. Pressler was an Army Air Corps veteran of WWII, serving as a sergeant from June 2, 1942, to Aug. 31, 1945, in seven campaigns: Tunisia, Sicily, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arna, Southern France, North Apennines and Po Valley, and in air combat in the Balkans with the 447th Bombardier Squadron, 12 Air Army. George received medals for Good Conduct, Presidential Unit Citation, Distinguished United Badge with one Oak Leaf Cluster and European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with eight Bronze Stars. He was a 49 year member of the American Legion. He enjoyed CB radios, talking about the old days in Hollidaysburg, traveling and gardening and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg. Funeral service with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
