CORNING | The Shepherd has called home another member of His flock.

Merrill C. "Casey" Case Jr., 60 years of 3565 Gorton Road, went to sleep with the Lord, Tuesday, April 27, 2004 at his home, surrounded by his loving family, following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born September 11, 1943 in Corning, NY, the son of the late Merrill C. Sr. and Helen Bronson Case. A lifetime resident of Corning, he graduated from Corning Free Academy (Class of 1962) and attended Corning Community College. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in 1962-65.

Merrill was employed with the New York State Department of Corrections, at Elmira Corrections Facility, and the Monterey Shock Incarceration, retiring January 2, 2001 with 25 years service.

He was a coordinator for the NYS Employee Assistant Program, Training Supervisor of New Recruits of Correction, member of the Corning Beagle Club (where he would spend time with his dog Rambo), a past member of South Corning Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Corning VFW. Casey was an accomplished musician, playing the organ and drums with numerous local bands.

He is survived by wife; Diana Alder Case, daughter; Deborah English (fiance` Mike Gesek) of Horseheads, NY, son; Robert (Karen) Case of Binghamton, NY. Grandchildren; Kassondra English, Joseph, Jenna and Jason Case. His Aunt; Ruth Anderson, and several cousins. Special friend Judy Segar-Rhodes.

Family & friends may call at the Haughey Funeral Home, 216 E. First St, Corning, NY, Saturday, May 1, 2004 from 10am-1pm; with Funeral Service following at 1pm. The Rev. Stephen D. Sibson officiating. Committal Prayers and Full Military Rites will be held at the family plot in Hope Cemetery, Corning, NY.

The family would appreciate Memorial Donations be given in Casey's name to Southern Tier Hospice, 11751 East Corning Road, Corning, NY 14830, or to the SPCA, Rte 352, Elmira, NY 14903.
