Funeral services were scheduled this afternoon at three o'clock for D. F. "Fisher" Gaskin following his death Tuesday evening late at the Black Rest Home in Jacksonville, Fla. where he had been for some time. A native Coffee Countian, Fisher lived a life filled with service to his family and community. Born Feb. 12, 1875, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Gaskin Sr., near West Green in the Shepherd community, he worked on the farm and later moved to Geneva, Ala., where he was taken ill and later he was stricken with polio.

Gaskin Avenue in Douglas was named for Fisher's uncle and for several years he walked up and down the Douglas streets selling shoes, long after he was unable to do real work. Although handicapped from the effects of polio, Fisher was a man of courage and enthusiasm and for many years he trekked up and down Coffee County with his sample case selling shoes to pay his own way in the world. He was a cheerful giver to those less fortunate than himself. Rich and poor, white and colored, young and old, Coffee Countians loved Fisher Gaskin for what he was and thousands of them will mourn his passing.

Survivors include three sons, Clebourne Gaskin, Jacksonville Fla.; Clifford and Tildon Gaskin of Pasagoula, Miss.; one daughter, Mrs. E. H. Bassett, Memphis, Tenn.; and one sister, Mrs. Bell Clough, Douglas; five nephews, three nieces, 10 great nephews, and 8 great nieces.

The Rev. B. E. Donehoo will be the officiating minister and the funeral will be held at Sims Funeral Home chapel with a quartet composed of Carlos Grantham, Gordon Davis, D. C. Dockery and A. D. King accompanied by Mrs. Jay Hathaway, furnishing the special music. Active pallbearers were Harry Walker, O. T. Walker, James Clough Walker, Allen Clough, Lynwood Meeks, and Gillman Clough.

Interment will be in the city cemetery with Sims Funeral Home in charge.
