Mrs. Handy, Top Harpster Citizen, Dies
HARPSTER - Mrs. Bernice Handy, 89 long active in Harpster affairs, died Saturday in Wyandot Memorial Hospital after being in failing health for several years.
She was born Aug, 20, 1881, a daughter of Lewis and Susan Jane Walters Cross. On Oct. 17, 1901 she married Robert F Handy. Her husband preceded her in death.
Mrs. Handy served 16 years on Harpster Village Council, was clerk of the board of education for 32 years and was the town's postmistress for 25 years.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Two children survive, Mrs. Leon (Beatrice)Roach of Ann Arbor, Mich. and Lewis Handy of Toledo. Also surviving are four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday from the Lucas Funeral Home at Upper Sandusky. Rev. Donald Davis will officiate with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call tonight at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be made to the heart care unit at Wyandot Memorial Hospital.
