Funeral services for Clifford Thomas Tarwater, 89, who died on Wednesday March 4, 2009, will be held Monday at 12:30 pm in Gardenview Baptist Church, 3139 Armsdale Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218 with Rev. Steve N. Wagers officiating. Interment will follow in Jacksonville Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-4 pm in George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4747 Main Street, Jacksonville, FL 32206. Mr. Tarwater was born in Sylacauga, Alabama and was a longtime resident of Jacksonville, Florida. He was the son of the late Flem and Flossie Tarwater. He was a veteran of the US Army having served during WWII. He had retired from Gulf Oil Co. after 25 years of service and was a member of Gardenview Baptist Church, Ezra Lodge, and Jacksonville Gun and Skeet Club. Survivors include his loving wife of 32 years, Sandra Tarwater; 1 son, Douglas Tarwater (Jeanne); 3 daughters, Sylvia Faye Higginbotham (George), Michelle Waters and Sarah "Beth" Patton; Multiple grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. Many friends, extended family including his loving dog named Mac. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to: Community Hospice of N.E. Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257.
