Joshua Hickman Burgoyne was born 7 Jul 1822 in Marion County (W)VA, the son of Joseph & Ann (McGeath) Burgoyne. On 4 Apr 1850 he married Mary Ann "Anna" Baker in Marion County. Joshua & Mary Ann had seven children, Lydia Burgoyne, Margaret M. (Burgoyne) Knotts Shahan, Charles Falen Burgoyne, John Joseph Burgoyne, Martha Abigail "Mattie" (Burgoyne) Huffman, William Henry Burgoyne, & Arthur Lewis Burgoyne. After the death of Mary Ann in 1885, Joshua married Mary Samantha Fortney on 13 Sep 1888 in Preston County, West Virginia. Joshua & Mary Samantha had three children, Oscar Sherman Burgoyne, Agnes (Burgoyne) Hall & Ezra Grover Burgoyne Sr.
