Dock B. Boutwell, 66

Funeral services for Dock B. Boutwell, 66, Grady County farmer who resided about one mile outside the city limits on the Ochlocknee Highway, were held in the Meigs Baptist Church, Wednesday 11 a.m. Rev. J. W. Franklin, assisted by Rev. T. M. Underwood, Jr., officiated. Interment followed in the Meigs Cemetery, the active pallbearers being Leo Harris, Ellis Harris, Earl Pyles, Wright Pyles, Roy Pyles, and Ralph Boutwell. The deceased had resided in Grady County for the past 25 years or longer, and had always been engaged in farming.

The deceased was found lying on the floor at the back door of his home by his wife between 3:30 and 4:00 p.m., upon her return from Cairo where she had gone to purchase groceries. She immediately gave the alarm and her nearest neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Edenfield, who lived across the road, hearing her outcry rushed to the scene. It is understood that he breathed two or three times before he passed away. Sheriff Strickland and Dr. C. K. Singleton were immediately notified and rushed to the scene.
After an investigation by Coroner Bearden and Sheriff Strickland, and an examination by Dr. Singleton, who decided that the cause of Boutwell's death was due to a heart attack, no inquest was held.

The deceased is survived by his wife, the former Miss Jennie Tilley; two sons, Willie, of Meigs and Eston, of Pelham; two daughters, Mrs. Irene Dollar, Meigs; and Mrs. Leroy Burke, of Johnstown, N. Y., by a former marriage; two brothers, Berry Boutwell, Pavo, and Charley Boutwell, Ochlocknee; four sisters, Mrs. F. M. Brumbley, Quincy, Fla., Mrs. Elmo (Elnora) Harris, this county (Grady), Mrs. Emory Hancock and Mrs. Lissia Mathis, both of Cairo.
Braswell Funeral Home, of Pelham, was in charge of funeral arrangements.
