On October 15, 2008, Adele A. Garcia, also known as "Nana" passed peacefully in her sleep at the age of 84. Adele is survived by son Bill Dutra and daughter-in-law Pamela Dutra; daughter Toni Dutra Tice (deceased) and son-in-law Philip Tice; daughter Nani Dutra Peevyhouse and son-in-law Roger Peevyhouse (deceased), step-son Larry Garcia and Bill Dutra's step-sister Janet Bennett. Adele's surviving grandchildren include three grand-daughters from Bill Dutra and Paula Dutra; Denise Dutra-Maurer, with her two children, Nicholas and Samantha Maurer; Aimi Dutra Krause with husband J.C. Krause, and their two children Chase and Grady Krause and Patty Dutra Bruce with husband Erik Bruce, and their daughter Eliana Bruce. Adele's surviving grandchild from daughter Toni Dutra Tice is son Edward Tice and Adele's surviving grandchildren from Nani Dutra Peevyhouse includes Merriam, Thomas and Toni Peevyhouse with great grandchildren Corina and Leilani Peevyhouse. Born Adele Coelho, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The youngest of ten children, Adele was born and raised on the Hawaiian island of Molokai. She married Edward A. Dutra in 1943, and shortly thereafter relocated to Northern California to raise her three children. She worked alongside her husband Edward in the dredging business in Rio Vista, Calif. She later married James Warner and had two stepsons Bucky and Jerry Warner. Later in her life she met John Garcia, from the Hawaiian island of Maui, with whom she lived until his passing in 1999. Adele loved to work with her family and served as a strong mentor for both her children, grandchildren and closest friends. She enjoyed cooking and was famous for her chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies, the latter nicknamed "Nana's Kisses". Raised on a Molokai farm, her love for animals led her to working with 4-H groups and helping young children understand the importance of hard work. No stranger to hard work, Adele managed a summer camp at the Dutra Museum of Dredging in Rio Vista where her insistence and discipline earned her the nickname "Sarge". In her later years she was always helpful in the mobile home park in which she lived and often helped organize events and gatherings for the elderly. She became extremely loved at Regency Place Retirement Center where she worked with others in a loving and caring way, always with a smile and never a complaint. Even in her final hours she passed at peace and with a smile on her face. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
