George Ray Buckner 78, of Houston died at his home on January 7, 1995, due to a long illness. Ray was born on February 10, 1916, at Kenderpost, Missouri to the late William and Laura Jane Buckner.
Ray served his country as a medic in the Army in world War II from 1942-1946. He was employed by Smith Lumber Company in Success for thirty-four years. After the lumber company closed in 1980, he did part time work for Royce Smith Walnut Company of Success, and various other saw mill jobs in the area. He also enjoyed working in his yard and garden until his health failed him in 1990
He was united in marriage to Edna Ruth Mckee on February 7, 1947. To this union seven children were born.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Edna of the home, three sons, Lonnie McKee of Springfield, Missouri, George Ray Buckner,Jr. of Licking, Missouri and John Buckner of Success, Missouri. Four daughters, Carolyn Daniel of Houston, Missouri, Donna Hancock of Success, Missouri, Jean Rees of Houston, Missouri and Kay Buckner of Licking, Missouri. Also surviving are one brother, Jack Buckner of Licking, Missouri and one sister, Ilene Mitchell of Bridgeport, Nebraska. Seventeen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of friends made throughout the years.
Ray was preceded in death by his parent, four brothers and five sisters.
Ray accepted Christ as his saviour and became a Christian in November of 1993.
Services wre held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 10 at Success Baptist Church with Rev. Harold Smith and Rev. Kendall Ford officiating. Burial was in the C.T. Smith Cemetery under direction of Evans Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Rupert, Bruce and Royce Smith, Bud Garrett, Gary Sliger, Robert Sullins, Scotty Shepherd and George Ramsey.
