Nicholas A. Monti, 93, Altoona, passed away Tuesday at Golden LivingCenter-Hillview, Altoona. He was born in Tyrone, son of Joseph and Josephine (Consolo) Monti. He married Caroline Terrasi Oct. 17, 1946. Surviving are his wife, Caroline; two sons: Nicholas Ronald Monti in California and John Monti and wife, Marie, of Middletown, N.Y.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph; sisters: Mary Petrogallo, Josephine Monti, Lucian Evancheck and Amelia Olems; and a brother, John Monti. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Altoona. Nick retired from Blair Sign Co. and was a music teacher who taught private lessons. Mr. Monti served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and also served in the Army National Guard as a staff sergeant. He was a lifetime member of the Bavarian Aid Society and Cesare Battisti Club. Nicholas was a local musician who played clarinet for the Altoona Junior City Band, VFW Band, Railroad Reconstructed Band, 28th Division Band, Hollidaysburg Alumni Band and Bavarian German Club Band. He also played for the dance bands of Tommy Hurd, Gene Botteicher and Charles Lockard. Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. today, Feb. 12, 2009, at Santella Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at the funeral home. Committal at Calvary Cemetery.
