Funeral services for Elmer A. Abshere, 61, of 4220 Spradling Avenue, Fort Smith, Arkansas, brother of Jim Abshere of Van Buren, was held at 11 a.m. at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gene Morris officiating. Burial was in the Fort Smith National Cemetery.

Mr. Abshere, who died Monday at a local hospital, was a retired furnace tender with Harding Glass, a Mason, a member of Central Heights Baptist Church. Glass Workers Local No. 4, and a veteran of World War II.

Other surivors include his wife, Beulah; three daughters, Mary Rose of Saucier, Mississippi, Freda of North Little, Rock, Arkansas and Maketta of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one sister, Ona Marie of Kansas; four brothers, Tommy of Fort Smith, Raymond of Los Angeles, California, W. C. of Oregon and Danny of Texas; and seven grandchildren.
