Alfred M. Crowe
Mr. Alfred M. Crowe, 71, one of the county's most prominent citizens, died at the home in the Starrs Bridge community early last Sunday morning, after an illness since June.
Mr. Crowe suffered a stroke in the early summer, but due to an unusually strong constitution he overcame this and a later stroke, and was up and about the house until only a few days before the end. Mr. Crowe was considered the best farmer in the county, having taken hillsides and made a modern farm, producing a high yield with diversified farming.
Mr. Crowe lived an upright Christian life. He was a member of long standing of the Liberty Baptist church, and was known throughout this section of the state for his honesty, integrity and generosity.
He was born in Franklin county, the son of pioneer citizens, and was twice married -first to Miss Mollie Bailey, and second, to Miss Mary Hulsey, who survives him.
Funeral services were held at Liberty Church Wednesday, October 7th, with Rev. Spence Phillips and Rev. S. E. Macomson officiating. A large crowd attended the funeral, Attesting to the high esteem in which he was held.
Children surviving are: Mrs. R. D. Brown, Carnesville, Mrs. N. E. Dawkins, Canon, Mrs. Fred Massey, Carnesville, Mrs. Willard Roland, Anderson, S.C., Mrs. Ludy Haley, Royston, Mrs. H. T. Atkinson, Carnesville, Mr. Grady Crowe, Carnesville, Mr. Ezra Crowe, Royston, Pvt. Goldman Crowe, Camp Chaffee, Ark., one step-daughter Mary Will Hulsey, Carnesville. He is also survived by five brothers: Judge L. Crowe, Hemin, Texas, A. J. Crowe, Stanton, Texas, Simpson Crowe, Royston, and Lee Crowe, of New Jersey and 28 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
B. D. Ginn, funeral director, was in charge of arrangements.
