Leo W. Althoff, 88, of York, entered into rest on Tuesday morning, February 3, 2009, at his residence. He was the husband of Doris A. (Pfeiffer) Althoff, to whom he was married 63 years.

Leo was born January 14, 1921, in York, the son of the late Leo C. and Martha (Weimer) Althoff.

Leo proudly served his country during WWll in the U.S. Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Gregory as a gunner in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign. He retired as a machinist from Harley Davidson. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church and the Knights of Columbus.

In addition to his wife, Doris, Leo is survived by five children, Thomas L. Althoff, Richard A. Althoff, Christina M. Nuzum, and Mary K. Althoff, all of York, and John A. Althoff of Kenosha, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; 13 greatgrandchildren; and five siblings, Josephine Flinchbaugh, and Thomas Althoff both of Florida, Kathleen Randle, and Bernard Althoff, both of York, and Martha Winters of Texas. He was preceded in death by a son, Rodney Althoff; two siblings, Elizabeth Saltsgiver and James Althoff; and a great-grandaughter, Syndell Althoff.

Burial will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery with full military honors by the York County Veteran Honor Guard.
