SECTION 4, GRAVESITE # 61

Jean was born at home on 12/30/20, to a poor Polish immigrant family in Detroit Michigan. She was an only child. She grew up lonely with alcoholic parents. Her mom died of cirrus of the liver when Jean was just 21, her dad spent most of his time living in the bars down the street.

Jean met and married my dad, he just lived down the street and his parents were from the same village in Poland as her parents. They were married in 1947.
She had 2 children.

When Jean was just 48 when her father had a heart attack and passed away, he was just 68. The drinking took its toll on his heart -

Life in the city was moving fast, most of the immigrants were passing away on her street, her new neighbors were her age, and she soon developed a lasting friendship.

Both families purchased land in Northern Michigan, next to each other, in a small city called Hale and were used as a vacation home with plans to retire there. This was in 1969.

Her neighborhood took a turn for the worse with drive by shootings and robberies, when my father decided to retire and move to Hale. This was July 1979. They sold the home, and moved. Their plans were to do some traveling w/her neighbors, and settle into a life of retirement.

In October of 1979, mom's closest neighbor and best friend died of liver cancer. She was only 58. Her retirement plans were extinguished.

The winters in Hale became extremely lonely with high snowfall and very cold weather. Jean became depressed - She did not realize the winters would take such a drastic toll on their mental and physical health.

Jean settled into the life of being retired and lonely, she met a few friends thru bingo and joined the VFW and American Legion. (My father was a WWII vet)

Life became harder as Jean aged, she could not tolerate the cold weather and snowy winters. Her relationship was strained with my father and she became very lonely – She kept a journal just to pass time.

In 1995, my father had a massive heart attack and died – he was cremated and his ashes were stored with me. Jean decided to sell and move into a retirement apartment near me her daughter.

At the age of 75. she began a new life in her new apt - Life was good to her and her health was not giving her any problems. She made many friends and even met a widower; they became friends fast and even found out their parents were born in the same village in Poland.

We spent a lot of time together, since she was only a mile away from my home. Sundays was our day to spend together - she adored my pets and they loved the attention.

In November of 2008, at the age of 87 – her health took a turn for the worse. She was getting very sick and lost her appetite and became weak. After many trips to the ER she was dignoised w/liver cancer. Her journals mentioned her pain, and weakness, and inability to walk. She spent most of her last days in my bed and finally after Christmas she was taken to the ER for her last trip to the hospital. She spent her 88th and last birthday in the hospital.

On January 6, I got a call @ 3am to come fast Jean would not last till dawn. I was at her side when she took her last breath. She died peacefully and without pain.

Her body was cremated and buried with dad's ashes in the VA National cemetery in Holly Michigan on Jan 22th. She has completed her life cycle and outlived many of her old friends. I buried her First Holy Communion prayer book, she had since she was 7. Her glasses, a copy of her dad's death announcement and a rosary.

I forgot to bury a tube of fixadent, and deck of cards to be buried with her. I think she would have gotten a kick out of that. I kept telling her don't worry about being buried, I was going to give her body to science.

Jean loved life, she was always smiling and laughing she loved bingo and playing cards. She was a kind and loving gentle soul and loved animals - Her life ended peacefully. Her legacy in life was not much - but she touched many lives with her kindness.

Please leave her flowers and messages, because I think she would enjoy that.
