SGT Franklin Anton "Frank" Ruby spent his early years on the homestead his birth Father Carl Benjamin "Ben" Ruby (1877-1910) and his Uncle Richard Frederick "Fred" Ruby (1884-1955) built; On that homestead, the brothers built a one-room sod house for Ben and his Wife Adele (born Schmale) Ruby (1878-1954) and their six children--Fred, Anna, Carl, Paul, Frank, and Bill.

Frank's birth Father Ben was killed in a coal mine near the homestead, and a couple of years later his birth Mother Adele married Ben's brother Fred, who raised his Nephew Frank and his brothers and sister as his own.

Frank's Uncle Fred and his birth Mother Adele gave birth to six more children--Chris, Richard, Rose, Ruth, Emma, and May, all born in that sod house except May. Another baby, Adele, was stillborn and is laid to rest in the Ruby Family Cemetery next to Ben's grave.

Frank married Mable Lucille (born Fields) Ruby (1914 - 1991) on February 23, 1945, in Yuma (Yuma County), Arizona, and the couple is laid to rest in Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis (Meade County), South Dakota.
