Neil K. Aase, 67, died on Sunday, August 8, 2004 at Avera McKennan Hospital. A memorial service was held on Wednesday, August 11 at First Baptist Church in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Neil was born in Grand Forks, N.D., on August 15, 1936, to Lawrence and Ethel (Holten) Aase. Following his graduation from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls, he studied telegraphy at the Brown Institute in Minneapolis.

In 1955, Neil joined the U.S. Navy and served until he received his honorable discharge in 1959.

Neil was united in marriage to Bonnie Hill in Albany, Ore., on January 26, 1960. Neil was employed as a telegrapher with the Burlington Northern Railroad. Neil and Bonnie lived in many places while he worked for the railroad, includign Staples, Grafton, N.D., Voss, N.D., Minto, N.D., Garretson, S.D., and in 1976, moved to Sioux Falls, S.D. In March 2004, they moved to Lake Madison.

Neil was a member of First Baptist Church, Sons of Norway, VFW and the American Legion in Minto, N.D.

Survivors include his wife Bonnie of Wentworth, S.D.; one son, Jeff Aase of Sioux Falls; daughters, Julie (Chad) Stephens of Lennox, S.D., and Joan Slattery of Sioux Falls; nine grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Gregory.
