John died in a plane crash.
Jimmie Gressett and John Hardisty crashed 20 miles short of their destination of Eagle Nest Lake. The plane crashed into the side of a narrow canyon near the top of a mountain, a mile and a half east of Black Lake. The crash site was difficult to find and then reach due to the dense foliage growing on the side of the ravine which was 400 to 600 feet deep.
Mrs. Gressett and Mrs. Hardisty was hospitalized due to the stress of their week long strain of waiting to hear news of their husbands. Mrs. Hardisty is expecting a baby in November.
