Eugene Searsy, 83, of Kress, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2009, at his residence. Graveside services will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 21, 2009 in Kress Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be from 6-8 P.M., Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at the funeral home.

He was born on December 22, 1925 in Lubbock, Texas to Clay Ross and Ada Irene Young Searsy. He married Viola Maxine Thomas on April 18, 1946 in Lubbock. Mr. Searsy attended schools in Roosevelt where he graduated in 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He attended radio school and was on the minesweeper U.S.S. Doran. He was discharged in 1946 and farmed east of Lubbock in the Canyon Community until moving to Kress in 1955 where he farmed until retiring in 1977. Mr. Searsy was a member of the Kress Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife: Maxine Searsy of Kress; two sons: Lowell Don Searsy and wife Janie of Brownfield and Larry Dale Searsy and wife Delores "Pete" of Lubbock; two brothers: Donald Wayne Searsy and wife Betty of Lubbock and Durwood Searsy and wife Sandra of Idalou; one sister: Roxie Garrett and husband Billy Wayne of Amarillo; sister-in-law: Nedra Searsy of Denver City; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
