Marjorie Jean Franklin died January 13, 2009. She was born December 23, 1922 in Butler, Missouri to Oscar and Marie Scifers. Marjorie attended Central Missouri State Teachers College and graduated in 1949 with a degree in Home Economics. She taught school near Butler, Missouri for several years. Marjorie married Isaac B. Franklin on November 23, 1950. She is survived by her husband, Isaac and three children, Jean Franklin, Linda Franklin-Demmy, and Joseph Franklin. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Zachary Franklin, Jaclyn Franklin, Jennifer Codding and Diane Codding and her sister, Shirley Aiello of Oklahoma City as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Barnett of Pittsburg, KS and brother, William Oscar Scifers of Butler, MO. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, January 16, at the Village Christian Church, 9401 Ridgeview Drive, Oklahoma City. Graveside services will be held Saturday, at 11:00 am, January 17, at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, MO. Marjorie was State President of Oklahoma Garden Clubs and President of the Oklahoma Herb Society. She held several chairmanship positions including Festival in the Park, Butterfly and Wildflower Committee and South Central District Garden Club. She was a Master Gardener, and an Accredited Flower Show Judge." She was the founder of the Apogon Iris Garden Club. She also worked with the governor of Oklahoma to sponsor a bill to adopt the Black Swallowtail Butterfly as the official butterfly of Oklahoma. Marjorie was awarded the 2006 Lifetime Achievement award by OKC Beautiful for distinguished service as an "Icon of Gardening and Beautification." Marjorie was also active member at Village Christian Church for the past 48 years. She was chairman of both adult and children education and the Women's Disciples Group.
