Elva P. Abbott, 79 PORTLAND -- Elva P. Abbott, 79, died on Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, at the Maine Medical Center in Portland following a brief illness. She was born in Lambert Lake, on Jan. 21, 1929, the daughter of Ernest and Birdie Stover. Elva and her family lived in Portland as her children grew up; later she moved to Old Orchard Beach for many years before residing at Seaside Assisted Facility in Portland. During WWII Elva worked for a short time in Connecticut as a member of the Woman's Auxiliary where she met her husband Don. In her later years after having raised her six children, she worked in the cafeteria at the Old Orchard Beach Junior High School. Most of all however, she was a constant support and a loving homemaker to her family. Elva was a member of the VFW in Old Orchard Beach, and enjoyed bingo and bowling. Her greatest pleasure in life was the time she spent with her family, cooking for them and being together during holidays. Elva always tried to be at her grandchildren's ball games, and would forever be talking about them to friends and family. Elva is predeceased by her husband, Donald Abbott Sr.; and a son, Harold. She is also predeceased by her siblings, Ernest Stover, Lois Hodgdon, Viola Trask, Shirley Wright, Mildred Crosby and Rose Nason. She is survived by three sons, Carleton Abbott and wile Laura of Falmouth, Donald Abbott Jr. of Old Orchard Beach and Robert Abbott and wife Rebecca of Texas, two daughters, Diane Bennett of Sanford and Paula Abbott and partner Alphonse Legere of Old Orchard Beach. Sister Ella Devoe of Lambert Lake and six grandchildren are also surviving. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, at the Chapel of Independent Death Care, 471 Deering Ave., Portland. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., with interment to follow in Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland.
