MEMORIAL SERVICES HELD FOR JOSEPHINE SMITH
Memorial services were held Sunday morning at Folsoms' funeral chapel for Josephine King Smith, 75, who for the past 20 years had been a resident here. Rev Dirk Rinehart of Episcopal Church of the Redeemer of Pendleton officiated. Mrs Patrick Mahoney was organist. Interment was in Valley View cemetery at Vale with Rev Frank Butler of the Ontario Episcopal church officiating.

Mrs Smith was born at Rye Valley March 29, 1894 and passed away Thursday, Aug 28 at a Walla Walla hospital. A lifelong resident of Oregon, a member of the pioneer King family of Malheur county, Mrs Smith lived 45 years at Vale. She and her late husband operated a coffee shop there for many years. She was a member of PEO and American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her son, James R Smith; sisters, Maud Brown of Roseburg, Valeda Moore of Roseburg, Bessie Scott of Caldwell, Idaho, Mrs David Shore of Marysville, Calif., and three grandchildren, Terry Smith of Eugene, Karen Smith of San Lorenzo, Cal., and Michael Smith of Athena.
