THORPE, Nancy Hess age 74 of Dayton passed from this life on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at Hospice of Dayton. She just had the most wonderful Christmas with her family and friends. Nancy was born on August 7, 1934 in Dayton to Ray and Ruth (Stettler) Hess. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, George R. and Harry H. Hess; and sisters, Mabel Virginia, Glenna Hess, Dorothy Clotfelter and Jean Creech. Nancy is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jim; sons Roger (Diane) of SC, Jack (Jackie) Thorpe of Beavercreek and Joe (Kimberly) of Liberty Township; daughter, Amy at home; grandchildren, Joseph Thorpe II, Jennifer (Shaun) Starbuck, Sarah, Jessica & Jillian Thorpe, and Marie (Michael) Manar; great grandchildren, James Manar, Ethan Starbuck, Logan Elsea and Madeline Starbuck; and her brother, Judson Hess of Centerville. Nancy was a graduate of Stivers High School in 1952, a member of Memorial United Church of Christ, a member of Rebekah Lodge, and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. #5434 in Union, Ohio. She was also a lifelong fan of the Cincinnati Reds and University of Dayton Basketball. Nancy found great joy and love in her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
