Funeral services for Eddie Verdell (E.V.) Johnson, 80, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, January 8, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Brad Forrest and Reverend Kevin Poage officiating. Interment will follow in the Gann Cemetery.
Mr. Johnson was born March 24, 1928 in the Seedtick Community, Nacogdoches County, Texas to the late Virgie C. (Looney) and L.O. Johnson, and died Monday, January 5, 2009 in a local hospital.
Mr. Johnson had resided in Lufkin most of his life. He retired from Lufkin Industries following 32 years of service, was a partner in Johnson Excavating from 1977 to 1999, and had been a partner in Angelina Excavating since 1999. Mr. Johnson attended the Clawson Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Johnny D. and Teresa Johnson of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Jesse Johnson and Gale and Rex Nerren, all of Lufkin; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brothers and sisters-in-law, Winfred and Ann Johnson of Lufkin, David and Regina Johnson of Panama, Florida, Doyle Chester Johnson of Huntington, L.C. and Theary Johnson, Roy and Donna Johnson and Troy and Joyce Johnson, all of Lufkin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby Faye and Doyle Pounds of Anahuac and Mary Helen and Richard Hanes of Diboll; special caretaker, Velma Jackson; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Johnson; and brothers, Leon Johnson and Ray Johnson.
Pallbearers will be Terry Wheeler, Aaron Davis, Donald Shook, Markus Johnson, Mason Wheeler, Jeremy Blangger and Adam McDaniel.
Honorary pallbearers will be Allan "Bubba" Nerren and Cody Johnson.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
