Nannie Deal Overcash Carpenter


Hickory, N.C. - Nannie Deal Overcash Carpenter, 92, of Hickory, passed away Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley.

Born Jan. 12, 1916, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Tilford and Hattie Hunsucker Deal.

She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Claremont.

In addition to her parents, her first husband, Charles Overcash; second husband, Mack Carpenter; three brothers, Robert, David and Fred Deal; and two sisters, Floy Yount and Ruby Robinson, preceded her in death.

She is survived by two sons, Glenn F. Overcash of Claremont and Charles D. Overcash of Catawba; four daughters, Shirley Fitts of Charlotte, Beatrice Fox of Newton, Patricia Charlton of Leesburg, Fla., and Nancy Cline of Taylorsville; brother, Chester Deal of Claremont; two sisters, Frances Ellis and Martha Ann Jones, both of Claremont; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Newton, with the Rev. Byron Repass officiating.

Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church Cemetery in Claremont.

The family will receive friends from noon to 12:45 p.m. Thursday at Burke Mortuary in Newton prior to the service.
