AUSTIN -- Robert Alfred Lau, age 76, of Austin died Monday, Dec. 29, 2007 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Bob was born March 11, 1932 in Comfrey, Minn. to Edward and Hilda Lau, then attended catholic school. He was a German-Bohemian. Bob served as private first class in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War.
Bob was a construction worker at Wilson and retired before 1991. He was a member of the VFW, Legion and Disabled American Veterans. Bob enjoyed fishing, playing cards at the old place where the B&J Bar is now, farmshows, yardwork, reading, bingo and watching TV (especially shows about religion). Bob liked homemade chicken soup, especially at the soup kitchen at St. Augustine Catholic Church during Lent. Bob really liked Abbey (the dog at Comforcare) and Kay's dog too.
After Bob's parents passed away, Bob rented an apartment on West Oakland from Art and Ardy Wangen where he lived for almost 28 years. He made friends with many of the other tenants and they sat together on the front yards and waved and visited with passersby. From his apartment, Bob would walk downtown to make friends with so many merchants and then stop to visit them. He also walked to St. A's Church each Saturday night. Bob had a special shitzu friend named Tibet.

Bob is survived by his many friends at Comforcare Good Samaritan Center.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Lau, and his sister, Lorraine Lau.

A funeral mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan.5, 2009 at Mayer Funeral Home with Father Joe Fogal officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service on Monday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post No. 91.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Augustine Catholic Church or Comforcare Good Samaritan Center.

Note:
Bob also had two other brothers Linus Lau (See findagrave Casper Wyoming) and Jerome Lau, also of Casper, Wyoming.
