Steinar Aaker,67, died on Saturday, June 17, 2006 at Northwest Medical Center, CNC Unit, Thief River Falls, MN, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM, Thursday, June 22, 2006 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla, MN with Rev. Joseph Abrahamson officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Petri Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 – 8 PM on Wednesday, with a 7:00PM prayer service at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN and also one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Steinar O. Aakre was born on October 26, 1938 in Thief River Falls, MN, the son of Hans, Sr. and Tillie (Flom) Aakre. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and attended Ekvald School, 1944-1950, Grygla School, 1950-1952 and Goodridge High School, 1952-1954. Steinar continued to work on the family farm until his father's death in 1960, at that time he took over the farm and continued farming until 1970. After quitting the farming business he and his friend Spencer Talbert took an enjoyable trip to Anchorage Alaska.

Steinar had a goal of driving truck 4 million miles. He accomplished that goal in 39+ years. His first trucking job was with Spencer Talbert and many others followed there after. His last trucking job was with Hutchinson where he worked until his retirement.

Some of the things he enjoyed were auction sales, thrashing bees, rodeos, visiting and spending time with his friends and family.

Steinar is survived by his one brother, Hans Jr. (Jan) Aakre of Fargo, ND; nieces and nephews: Ted Aakre, Steve Aakre, Linda Mayo and Sue Korynta; cousins: John (Sharon) Flom of Thief River Falls, MN and Marie (Charles) Slater of Princeton, MN.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hans, in 1960 and his mother, Tillie, in 1984, 1 nephew and 2 cousins.
