Warrant Officer I - Myron Gail Darst
January 19, 1918 - August 16, 1985

Myron was born January 19th, 1918 in Jay County, Indiana to Morris Vernon Darst and Vera Ada Locker. He served 20 years in the US Navy and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. In 1936 he enlisted into the Navy as a Apprentice Seaman and obtained the rank of Warrant Officer I before the end of WWII.

On June 15th, 1946 in Orange County, Texas Myron married Evelyn Christine Metcalf the daughter of Thomas Leslie and Susie Jane Metcalf.

He retired from the military in 1956 and moved to Shreveport, Louisiana from Newport, Rhode Island. In 1957 he moved his family to Salem, Oregon and was a mechanic for the City of Salem.

Survivors include his wife Chris, two sons, David and Don, both of Salem; four daughters, Rose Holland and Linda Kessel, both of Salem, Dianna Jarnagin, Keizer, and Bonnie Johnson, Lebanon; and brother, John Hall of Union City, Ohio.

Graveside services were at 11 a.m. August 20, 1985 in Lone Oak Cemetery, Stayton.

Weddle mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

1920 US-Census, Madison, Jay County, Indiana. Vera and her two children are living with her parents, Jacob D Locker age 66, Married-Head of Household, and his wife, Leah Locker age 60. Married daughter, Vera A. Darst age 23, her daughter, Marciel Darst age 5 and her son, Myron G. Darst age 1.

The 1930 US-Census for Wayne, Jay County, Indiana list: John Worley Hall age 27, Head of Household. His wife Vera age 33, and their son, John W. Hall Jr. age 2. Also listed is his stepdaughter Claudia Darst age 15, and his stepson Myron Darst age 12.

On December 7th, 1941 at Pearl Harbor, Myron was in the US-Navy and was assigned to the Destroyer, USS Mugford DD-389. When the attack began, the Mugford downed three planes in 10 minutes with her antiaircraft guns.
