John Vickers Cartledge was the son of a minister of the Gospel, and labored , in the ministry, through a period of seventy years. He entered the ministry in his twenty-third year, and died in his ninety-third year. John Vickers Cartledge was the father of eleven children, 8 sons and three daughters. One daughter, his third child, died in Edgefield County S.C. Two sons died in Texas. His family moved to Mississippi to join his son Samuel. His entire family moved to Mississippi except his oldest son Abiah Morgan Cartledge who was attending Mount Zion Seminary in Winnsboro, S.C. The Cartledge Family as well as the Morgan family were from Wales and Settled first in Virginia. John Vickers Cartledge Married Maria Ann Morgan who was the daughter of Abiah Morgan and Nancy Pace Morgan. They lived in Edgefield County, S.C. There son Drury Morgan stayed in S.C.
