United States Navy Rear Admiral. He was a career United States Navy officer. His son was Jim Morrison of the 1960s rock group The Doors. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland in 1942, was commissioned an Ensign and served in the Pacific Theater for the duration of World War II. In 1966, he was the youngest officer in the Navy to be promoted Admiral and later served as commander of United States Naval Forces in the Marianas. Serving in the Vietnam War, he dealt with the 140,000 South Vietnamese refugees after the fall of Saigon in April, 1975 and created a tent city on an abandoned airfield to accommodate them while they waited to find new homes in the United States. He retired from active service in August, 1975. In 1990, Admiral Morrison visited his son's grave in Paris, France and had a plaque installed. He died of natural causes.
