This photograph was taken in 1952 of my Grandfather and Grandmother George McSwain (Doc) Rodgers & Effie Lee Rodgers. George was born May 10th 1903 and was one of five children born to George & Maggie Tippett Rodgers. George or (Doc) as he was called married Effie Lee Farabee on Jan 2nd 1935 and lived on the old home place of his birth. George (Doc) and Effie raised two daughters here in Desoto county. George was a Citrus grower as well as raising cattle and farming. Effie was born June 2nd 1907 and was the daughter of Millard I. Farabee & Sallie M. Strawn. Effie was married in 1928 to Samuel Hull who died of appendicitis in 1934 in Hardee county. Effie died Nov. 30th 1967 and was buried at the Mount Ephraim Baptist Church cemetery. George McSwain (Doc) Rodgers passed away in his sleep Aug. 16th 1996 at the age of 93 on the same home place he was born. He was buried beside her in the Rodgers family plot.
