Julia Ann was born to Harriet (Hovis) and William Newton Miskelly in Ripley, Mississippi. Her full siblings were Sally, Mary, Laura and James. She had about nine half siblings from her father's first marriage. Julia married James Lewis Harris on November 2, 1879 in Tippah County, Mississippi. In 1880 at age 18 Julia was living with her husband, James in Clark County, Arkansas. He was a farm laborer and she was keeping house. In 1900, they were living in Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory. James and Julia had born to their union, Mary "Ada", Edgar Lee, Albert William, Lola Bell. and Harriet Ethel.
