BLANC, Alexander Stewart
Age 85, died on August 13, 2008, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving former wife and dear friend, Winifred Blanc; children, Ron Blanc, Cheryl Shrewsbury, Michele Blanc, Cindi Blanc and John Blanc. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren, Shannon, Alexandra, Cody, Hannah, Jessica, Ryan, Maddi and Georgia. Al was a fourth generation San Franciscan, a descendant of the first Alexander Blanc who came to San Francisco from Port Arlington, Ireland in 1858. He served as a USAAC Flight Engineer (C-47) during WW2, stationed in Casablanca. After the war, he worked for Standard Oil (Chevron), retiring after forty years. Al's greatest joy in life, besides his family, was travel. He traced his genealogy to Ireland and Scotland , and after retirement, traveled all over the world. His last trip was a cruise to Alaska in April with his daughters, Cindi and Cheryl. Above all, Al was a loving father and grandfather. We will miss you, "Bapa." Friends are invited to attend a Rosary on Monday, August 18, 7:30pm at Crippen & Flynn Carlmont Chapel, 1111 Alameda de las Pulgas in Belmont, CA. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 9:30am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 1040 Alameda de las Pulgas in Belmont. A Graveside Service with military honors will follow at 1:30pm at the Sacramento Valley VA National Cemetery in Dixon, followed by a Celebration of Life at the home of daughter and son-in-law, Michele Blanc and Stu Nelson. The family requests that memorial donations be made to Dicalced Carmelite Monastery, P.O. Box 1720, Georgetown , CA 95634.
