She was born in Florida to George and Viola Cross Vickers. She married Garnet Bennett who met her when he moved from WV to Florida and began working in the lumber industry under her father's employment. They returned to WV after the birth of their son Guy where they lived until 1960 when they returned to Florida. He was a retired coal miner and she had worked in a department store in the fabric dept. She loved sewing and quilting as well as attending church and reading her Bible. They bought a house in Palm Bay, Fl where Hattie lived for 20 more years after Garnet passed from throat cancer in 1963.Besides raising 5 sons and 2 daughters she also adopted and raised her beloved grandson David "Skip" Bennett. She passed away secure in her faith in 1983 from complications of heart disease and diabetes. She was a loving and kind woman loved by many.
