William "Billy" Hendricks was born in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. He moved with the family to Norfolk, Virginia area and then again later to Richmond, Virginia. He was the third child of William and Lucille. He has an older brother Wilford and an older sister Estelle who were also born in Elizabeth City. His younger brother Ray was born in Norfolk, VA.

The family moved from North Carolina to the Norfolk area of Virgina and later to Richmond where his father became a machinist for DuPont. Billy showed a high level of mechanical aptitude at a young age.

After high school he was inducted into the US Army and served in the occupation in Germany. He was in Headquarters Company of the 3rd Infantry Division. Soon after coming home he married Ruby Estelle Frith (daughter of John Frith and Bertha Huband).

He was employed by Industrial Supply in Richmond in the early 50s and later by Gardner-Denver in Silver Spring, MD. He often helped build "Jumbos" which were used in tunneling, in particular one at Big Walker Mountain Virginia.

Bill moved his family, wife and son, to Maryland in 1956. In 1969 he formed his own company named Air Equipment Rental Co. It was based in Baltimore, MD. The company provided equipment to end user contractors and distributed a number of products to other companies which also rented construction equipment.

A number of heart attacks forced his early retirement. After selling his company he retired to Florida.

He was a Master Mason of the Mt. Moriah Lodge in Towson Maryland and was active in the Gideons in Naples, Fl. He loved to build things and had a complete machine shop at home. As a young man he won awards for his wood working skills.
