Amon Walter Prestwood, 89, of Chattanooga died Monday, May 6, 2002, in his home where he had resided for 52 years.
He was a longtime member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Central High School and a retiree of Combustion Engineering, where he had been a machinist for over 30 years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Prestwood was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Ruth Willobough Prestwood; his parents, John Walter Prestwood and Vannie Allen Prestwood; and his sister, Avelyn Prestwood Erb.
He is survived by brothers, Vernon A. Prestwood, J.S. "Pete" Prestwood, both of Chattanooga, and Merle Prestwood of Galveston, Texas. He also is survived by daughter, Ann Prestwood Schulz; sons, Roger Amon Prestwood and John Barry Prestwood, all of Chattanooga. He had 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
