Orval Neel Elkin, 81, of Bowling Green died at 12:15 a.m. July 12, 2006, at his daughter and son-in-law's residence with family and friends present.

The Warren County native was a retired farmer and former owner of O.N. Elkin Grocery in Riverside. He was a member and elder at Riverside Christian Church, a member of Elijah Upton Masonic Lodge No. 828 F&AM and Aeolian Lodge No. 51 IOOF, and was an Army veteran. He was a son of the late Levi Elkin and Zoretta Young Elkin. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Lee Elkin; four brothers, James Allen Elkin, Roscoe Elkin, David Brown Elkin and Kenneth Elkin; four sisters, Hattie Beals, Mattie Rone, Vessie Rone and Phobia Mae Elkin; and a great-grandson, Houston Vogler.

Funeral is at 11 a.m. Friday at J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Home, Lovers Lane Chapel, with burial in Riverside Christian Church Cemetery. Visitation is from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Riverside Christian Church Cemetery, c/o Jane Rone, 7343 Richardsville Road, Bowling Green, KY 42101.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Beals Elkin; a daughter, Sherry Elkin Milam and her husband, Milton E., of Bowling Green; a sister, Dorothy Cole Deweese of Bowling Green; two grandchildren, Tammy Milam Vogler and her husband, Thomas, and Derek Milam and his wife, Amy, all of Bowling Green; two great-grandchildren, Lucas and Kennedy Vogler, both of Bowling Green; a sister-in-law, Gwendolyn Elkin of Bowling Green; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carlton and Edwina Hix of Bowling Green; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Glenda Beals of Bowling Green; devoted friends and employees, Steven and Vickie Johnson of Riverside; several nieces and nephews; and caretakers Bob Talley, Linda Shell, Shirley Burris, Sylvia Johnson, Tammy Ward and Sadonna Knautz.
