He was the fifth of eleven children born to Frank Oscar Burdick. He graduated from Winston County High School (1920) and The University of Alabama (1924). In 1933 he married Nina Eleanor Falls, and they had one daughter. He was tax assessor of Winston County for many years, and also served as a teacher, football coach, contractor and worked for Alabama Power Company.
