Ralph J. Murphy, 85, of Mart, went to be with the Lord on 27th, October, 2008, in Waco, TX. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 29th, 2008 at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive. Services will be held on Thursday, October 30th at 2 PM at the First Baptist Church, Mart with the Rev. W. H. Smith and Brother Gary Kreder officiating. Interment will follow at Prairie Hill Cemetery.
Ralph J. Murphy was born March 4, 1923 in Prairie Hill, Texas to Claude Lee Murphy and Lola Lou Baker Murphy. Ralph grew up in Prairie Hill and married Carrie Louise Massey in January of 1943. He joined the United States Marine Corps in June of 1944; and after honorably serving his country in Saipan, Okinawa, and Tientsin, China, he returned from China in August of 1946 to start a family in Mart, Texas. Ralph was a foreman for the General Tire and Rubber Company for 30 years. After retiring from General Tire, he operated Murphy's Video Service in Mart.

Leading by example, Ralph, an Eagle Scout, was actively involved in his community teaching Sunday school for 20 years and serving as a deacon for over 50 years. He was a member for 62 years of the First Baptist Church of Mart and a member of the Mart Masonic Lodge No. 636 A.F. & A.M.of Texas for 62 years.

Ralph enjoyed spending time with his family; snow skiing, flying single engine aircraft, building model airplanes, and videoing family events. He was a wonderful, caring, and generous man who had a special place in his heart for all. Ralph always had a smile to give and a kind word to share. Throughout his life Ralph was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and the best father-in-law. He will be greatly missed.

Ralph was preceded in death by his mother Lola Lou Baker Murphy, sister Mattie Claudine Murphy Mitchell, and father Claude Lee Murphy. Surviving are his wife of 65 years Carrie Louise Massey Murphy, daughter, Linda Lou Berry and husband Leonard Allen Berry of Midlothian; daughter, Kayron Ann Lance and husband Dr. Jerry Don Lance, of Waco; son Randall Lee Murphy and wife Debra Charlene of Granbury. Grandchildren: Patricia Ann Earl, Elizabeth Berry Broadhead, Shelly Kay Lance Pledge, Jason Don Lance, Jonathan Kyle Murphy, and Matthew Lee Murphy. Great-grandchildren: Tyler Blaine Sims, Addison Summer Lance, Andrew Don Pledge, Darbi Paige Broadhead, Conner Nicole Broadhead, and William Jackson Murphy.

Pallbearers include; Leonard Berry, Don Lance, Jason Lance, Claude Mitchell, Kenneth Mitchell, Jonathan Murphy, Matthew Murphy, and Tyler Blaine Sims. Honorary Pallbearers include; Jeff Beavers, David Byrd, Brian Byrd, John Childers, Curtis Jones, Calvin Jones, Dean Minchew, Walter Renfro, Weldon Schelmmer, Leo Summers, and Tony Wayland
