Born June 15, 1914 in Constantinople, Turkey, she was a survivor of the Armenian Genocide, which claimed her father's life and left her partially blinded. She came to America in 1921 with her mother through Ellis Island, where her name is engraved on the Wall of Immigration. She was honored by the Massachusetts State Legislature in April 2006 during a commemoration of the genocide.
She grew up in Salem, New Hampshire, where her mother, Anna, married Vartan Danielian. She worked in the woolen mills in Lawrence and was the pianist at the Ararat Armenian Congregational Church for many years. In 1947 she married Suren Loosigian and moved to Andover, where together they worked side by side on their 3 Blanchard Street farm growing vegetables for delivery to Boston's Haymarket. Eva worked for Shawsheen Manor as receptionist in the 60's and is a long time breast cancer survivor. Suren and Eva were happily married for 51 years when Suren died in 1998. She was a long-time member of West Parish Church, the Eastern Star and Carvel Chapter of the Blind. She and Suren were known for their lavish picnics at the farm for many organizations in Andover and for their love of traveling.
She is survived by her son, Wayne, of Exeter, New Hampshire, his wife, Laurie, and their three children, Matthew, Megan and Emma; daughter, Susan Remine of South Dennis, Massachusetts, her husband, Michael, and their daughter, Jennifer, her husband David and great grandchildren, Alexander and Michelle of Lebanon, NH; by her sister, Mary Melkonian, of Homestead, Florida and her brother, Meanas Danielian, of Cape Coral, Florida.
Eva left the farm in 2001 to live at Andover Commons and later Marland Place before moving to Wingate in 2008. Eva's family is grateful for all the visits and meals and comfort from countless people in the Andover community for all these years.
Eva loved to play cards and she was a renowned scrabble player. Now and then, she would deliberately lose a scrabble game so as to not thoroughly discourage the competition. She will be remembered for her vibrant sense of humor. She also loved little children, but her first love was unquestionably her family. Donations in her memory may be made to West Parish Church, Reservation Road, Andover, MA 01810.
Calling hours are Thursday, October 30 from 4-7 p.m. at Conte Funeral Home, 28 Florence Street, Andover. A funeral will be held on Friday October 31 at 11:00 a.m. at West Parish Church in Andover with internment at West Parish Garden Cemetery and a reception in Fellowship Hall.
