Olympic Games Gold Medalist Athlete. At the 1972 Summer Olympics Munich, Germany, she won the gold medal for women's singles in the first modern Olympic archery competition. She also set a new world's record with a second round score of 1226. Prior to joining the US Olympic team, she placed 2nd in the Outdoor World Championships in 1969 and 1971. She also was first woman from Iowa to win an Olympic gold medal and was inducted into the Iowa Sports Hall of Fame in 1981. She died of Alzheimer's disease.
