Dallas Roper Jr., 67, of Roper Hollow Road, Morganton, N.C. died Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, at his residence following a year of declining health.
Born in Burke County on Nov. 18, 1940, he was the son of late Dallas Avery Roper Sr. and Ethel Short Roper.

Mother: Ethelene S. Roper
Dallas was a member of Praise Assembly of God in Glen Alpine. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He had worked as a machinist in several of the local hosiery mills before owning and operating D & D Painting.
Dallas is survived by his wife, Margaret Joyce Taylor Roland of the home; sons, Kevin Roper of the home, Samuel Roper and his wife, Linda, and Dallas L. Roper, all of Morganton and Frank Roland of Marion; daughters, Ellen D. Roper of Morganton, Cpt. Ethel D. Tamasi of Minot, N.D. and Karen Thompson and her husband, Kenny, of Marion; a brother, Bud Roper of Rutherfordton; a sister, Betty Abee; a special cousin, Rudelle Puett; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Edward Roper; and a son, Jerry Lynn Roper.
