Ruth Ann Showalter was born September 14, 1838 in Rockingham County, Virginia, the first of four children born to Adam Showalter and Sarah Eleanor Beard. Ruth was the granddaughter of David Bell C. W. Beard and Ruth M. Rolston. Ruth's mother died December 21, 1845 when Ruth was but 7 years old. Her father remarried two years later, and from that union Ruth had four half-brothers and five half-sisters.About 1868 Ruth married Daniel Cline. The couple removed to Missouri in the early 1870's. Daniel and Ruth appear in the 1880 census in Moreau, Morgan County, Missouri, with Ruth age 40. Enumerated with Ruth and her husband during the 1880 census was B.F. Showalter, Ruth's half-brother. Ruth preceded her husband in death on December 26, 1919, at the age of 81. - Gordon Ray Rolston
