Walter Miller was born on a farm on Spore-Brandywine Rd in Holmes Township. His father was a farmer. He had two brothers and six sisters. Clarence and Jay, Mollie, Minnie, Florence, Florrie (twins), Katheryn, and Sallie.Parents were Thomas E Miller and Sarah E Wilhelm.

He finished the customary 8 grades at the one-room Bethel School and attended church at the Old Bethel Church.

He married Sylvia Mutchler. They farmed until about 1920 when they lost the farm due to hard times. Walter went to work for the National Lime and Stone Company near Spore in 1931. He was the man who set dynamite to blast limestone loose in the quarry. His children tell of listening for the quarry whistle that warned that a blast was about to be set off and tehn hear the blast and feel the ground shake up to several miles away. he continued this job until he died in 1950 on Jan. 28th of a heart attack.
