Henry Spears Obituary - Louisburg Herald

Funeral services for Henry Spears were held at the Baptist church on Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with Rev. L. E. Daniel in charge. A quartet composed of Mesdames D. P. Carlin and Henry Mill and and Walter Braly and J.T. Lee, accompanied by Mrs. L. V. McDowell furnished the music. Burial was in Louisburg cemetery.

Henry Spears, son of Noah and Elizabeth Spears, was born near Cleveland, Mo., June 28, 1855, and died November 21, 1934.

He was married to Jane Lightfoot in 1875. She departed this life January 12, 1886. To this marriage was born Ed Spears of Logan, Ia; Charles, who died in 1916; and Will Spears, of Bucyrus, Kansas.

On January 1, 1889, he was married to Miss Emma McCammon. To this union six children were born, four boys and girls: Roy and Don, of Louisburg; Mrs. Mary Pumphrey and Mrs. Catherine Adkins, Kansas City, Mo.; two children died in infancy. There are 16 grandchildren and 6 great grand children; two brothers and two sisters; Gillie Spears, of Garnet; and Ed Spears, Louisburg; Mrs. Emma Waller, of Iola, Kansas and Mrs. Nora Lavelle of Denver, Colorado.

He moved to Kansas when but a child. His father settling on the land on which Stilwell, Kansas is now located. Mr. Spears moved to the Louisburg community in 1882. About nine months ago Mr. and Mrs. Spears made a visit to Winfield, Kansas for six months and coming back to Louisburg last August. He was confined to his bed but for days before passing away Wednesday evening.

His sickness and death was a shock to his family and neighbors. He leaves to mourn his going besides his family already mentioned a host of friends and old neighbors. He was a member of the Men's Bible class at the Baptist church, of which C.W. McNelly has been the teacher for a number of years. He attended Sunday school and church regularly when at all possible. He was a loving Father and a devoted husband and had always provided well for his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Out-of-town relatives here for the funeral were: Ed Spears, Logan, Ia; Miss Margaret Spears, Kansas City; Mrs. and Mrs. Joe Sheehan, Cleveland, Mo; Miss Mattie Koehler, Mrs. Hagen Spears, Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Jim VanHorn, Mrs. Ida Mae Achey and Mrs. and Mrs. Roy Barnes, of Paola; Mrs. Ishom McCammon, LaCygne, and Mrs. and Mrs. Gilley Spears, of Garnett, Kansas.
