James Andrew "Andy" Langston, 73, of Marietta died Friday, August 22, 2008. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 25, 2008 at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Carlson officiating. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. in Summerville City Cemetery, Summerville, Georgia. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be the nephews. Andy was retired from Lockheed and was a member of Holt Road Baptist Church in Marietta. He loved God, his family, and the outdoors. He lived simply and was never happier than when he was scouting for turkey and deer or, more recently, fishing his favorite trout stream with his brothers. He also never went anywhere without his camera, and was always taking pictures. He was a modern day Good Samaritan, compassionate and kind, and always doing for others. He was preceded in death by Nancy Ellen Cox Langston and Betty Jo Purdue Langston, his parents, Jake and Bessie Langston; sisters Joyce Mitchell, Ruth Langston, Jenny Langston; brothers Jim Langston, Ralph Langston, and Ronald Langston. He is survived by his children Venita and Michael Bruton of White, Renee and Ronnie White of Marietta, and Robert and Shay Langston of Woodstock; stepchildren Lee and Trisha Purdue of Seattle, Washington, Ronnie and Donna Purdue of Dallas, and Tammy Roberts of Forsyth; and grandchildren Chris and Eric Bruton, Bret and Kelly White, Drew and Olivia Langston, Jason Purdue, Joey and Eddie Purdue, and Amanda Ray, Jeremy Roberts. He is also survived by brothers and sisters Sybil Shields of Smyrna, Nell Thomas of Trion, Ruby Eller of Marietta, Charles Langston of Cartersville, Joe Langston of Trion, George Langston of Summerville, Larry Langston of Trion, David Langston of Rome, and Steve Langston of Chattanooga, Tennessee, many nieces and nephews. Contributions may be made to the Holt Road Baptist Church, 675 Holt Road, NE, Marietta, Georgia 30068. The family will received friends from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home & Crematory in Marietta.
