Ralph William Thompson was born on 21 September 1921 in Norwood, Ohio to William Sampson and Lorene Thompson. He grew up in Chicago, Illinois. At the age of 20, he entered the Army Air Force as an Aviation Cadet. He was soon piloting the B-24 Liberator, flying combat missions over Western Europe while assigned to the Eighth Air Force, 44th Bombardment Wing, stationed in England. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, and Air Offensive Europe Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Stars. On D-Day, Ralph flew three bombing missions over France. After his Honorable discharge from the AAF, he married the former Edith Melva Hamill on 30 August 1945. After graduating from Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois, they moved to Dallas, Texas. He worked as a Sales Analyst for American Cyanamid for 25 years. He was also a violinist for 14 years in the Richardson Symphonic Orchestra. In his retirement, Ralph was an election volunteer for the Republican Party and also a volunteer at the Farmers Branch Library.
