Of Wilmington. Age 83.
Died Thursday, July 29, 1999. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30am on Monday, August 2, 1999 in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 9th & DuPont Sts. Friends may call in Church from 9-:1030am. Entombment will be in The Crypt of St. Theresa, Cathedral Cemetery.
Born in Wilmington, DE , he retired from the New Castle County Police Dept. after 25 years of service. He was a WWII veteran and received numerous awards for his service including the Purple Heart. Retired from the National Guard in 1970, he is also past Dept. Commander of the American Legion for the State of Delaware where he was a member for 45 years. Also an avid sports fan, he was an official for football, basketball and baseball for 31 years. He was a very active volunteer at the Veteran's Hospital, Elsmere, DE. He is survived by his son, Dennis Bernardo of Baltimore, MD and his sister, Rose Feher of Wilmington. He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Catalino Bernardo, daughter, Mary Ann Panasewicz and son, Joseph Bernardo Jr. from Deer Park, TX. Arrangements by: Corleto-Latina Funeral Home
