During her parents divorce, Josie was called to testify for and against both of her parents. I have the documents on this. Her father's will was dated 24 June 1932 and was probated about 1936. It states she was living in Battle Creek, Calhoun County, Michigan, as were her siblings Charles Owen Graves and Beatrice M. Graves. Each child received $100.00.
Roscoe was abusive and Josie left him in fear for her life. Josie fled West Virginia, leaving her children behind and ended up in Lansing, Michigan.
Her son Robert Owen Smith was born on 19 January 1932. His father was Leroy Smith . Leroy died March 6, 1935.
Josie filed for divorce March 13, 1935. It was granted to Josie, uncontested and absolute on June 15, 1935.
Later in her life, Elizabeth was known as Betty. She married William J. Scheese on Dec. 8, 1935 in Isabella County, MI. Bill and Betty were parents to three children, twins Dorothy & Donald and son Marvin .
