Sgt. Joshua Harris, 21, was born and raised in Forest Park, Illinois. Joshua had been a member of the Illinois Army National Guard for a year before he graduated in 2006 Walther Lutheran High School in Melrose Park. An Eagle Scout, Joshua was committed to helping and serving others. Currently assigned as a specialist in the Illinois Army National Guard as a member of the 2nd Battalion 122nd Field Artillery, based at Robbins, Illinois, he was deployed to Afghanistan in late August. He died along with four other soldiers in Gerdia Seria, Afghanistan of wounds suffered when their vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device. He was posthumously promoted to the rank of sergeant. Joshua is survived by his parents, Mille (Robert) Harris-Hickey and William J. (Jean) Harris; siblings Kristen (James) Dutra, Kalyn Harris and Valerie Harris; nephew, Tyler Dutra; niece Breana Dutra; grandmothers Elaine Forsgren and Virginia (the late William A.) Harris; aunts Lynnette (the late Russell) Anderson, Sandra (Ed) Quintrall, Gail Harris, Susan (the late John) Marlowe and Mary (John) Raad; cousins Michael Denham, Elizabeth, Ralph IV and Ryan Blanche, Eric, Jason, Bradley and Johnathan Raad and Michelle and Matthew Anderson.

VFW Post 2686 in Brookfield, Illinois is named in his honor.
