Hon. James M. Washburn, one of the most prominent and influential Democrats in Southern Illinios,
editor and proprietor of the Egyptian Press, published at Marion, and this is the stand he takes: “ For our own
part, nominee or no nominee, the Press will not support, nor will its publisher vote, for any man for a legislative office who is not unequivocally in favor of equal coinage of gold and silver as standard money of the country,
with out reference to what other nations may do or say."
